No todo lo que brilla
No todo lo que brilla (Not everything that glitters is gold) is a photography installation by Juana Córdova.
The setting is the Cajas mountain range, whose forests and aquifiers make up a vital water recharge network for Cuenca and the region.
This unique ecosystem is currently threatened by the presence of transnational mining companies and illegal mining, since their operations would cause irreversible damage to the environment.
Faced with the relentless drive for profit of the global mining industry, Juana Córdova reminds us that gold is somewhere else, not in the metal, but in the water.
The installation is completed by a golden faucet that evokes our healthy daily habit of drinking water from the tap. The presentation culminates with a simple but symbolic gesture: providing natural water in front of the Tomebamba River.
During the art exhibit, cultural mediators welcomed over three hundred attendees, including a significant number of children and youth from various schools in Cuenca. Through aesthetic-pedagogical dialogues, they facilitated meaningful interactions between the audience and the artworks. These conversations fostered a reconfiguration of sensitivities, prioritizing deep engagement and reflection over simply providing information.
