Cuenca

Poster bombing

Parallel to the art exhibit, we created a poster-bombing intervention across the city.

Each poster holds a different message. Some remind the public that Cuenca has already decided to keep the páramos free of extractive mining, while others highlight the connection between the paramos and the bodies of water that sustain life in the Andes.

The posters are an instance of social pedagogy. They are not just informative, but also beautifully elusive, mixing photography, drawing, and painting. Evoking the land, they hold a speculative quality that intentionally allures the public to pause, read, be curious, and ponder the messages.

The posters are a collaboration between Ecuadorian and Canadian digital artists. The posters’ background is based on images from an Ecuadorian photographer.
